The Microsoft lawsuit sets a precedence - ie chances are greater now that succeeding lawsuits will settle quickly.

Also, might turn into Star Wars and intergalactic battles with big anti-trust issues if MSFT bought them, and was then in the position of going after everyone who might be said to have violated the patents.

Better that one smaller company be licensing the patents to others, rather than ugly battles among the Giants.
