most people do not carry their cell phones around with them when exercising

cell phone in a pocket cannot record heart rate or even paces properly

Cell phone app do not challenge you to beat your friends

cell phone apps do not cheer you for climbing more stairs than the previous week,.

If all you want is something to say you moved a cell phone and its app will be fine. It will also tell you where you walked (using its GPS) but wont tell you your hear rate as you walked.

Wearing a fit bit is easy you can tell the time without getting your phone out of your pocket!

No doubt about it wearables /fitness trackers are here to stay and FitBit is the leader

Doesn't explain today's drop though?

Yep, I carry my IPhone on the running track or long walks. It has an excellent stopwatch and a free reasonably accurate pedometer app.

For real precision a simple wristwatch or stop watch is best. Has worked for >100 years. Do a measured mile in 4.000000 minutes and you're in shape and surely trim.

Real jocks won't be using fitbits... just overweight fat-camp kids and housewives. There's going to be a stigma attached to these bands. Kinda like owning a bunch of Richard Simmons video tapes. LOLOL!
