Thanks for reaching out, inveterate. Here in Brussels airport you can enter the building and go to checkin without 1 security check. Carrying bombs in your right hand and kalasnikovs in your left. Me and my wife, has been always perplexed why this hasn't been more secured? We always knew this was going to happen. But I know the reason and that's because of all the widespread shops and restaurants that need to be easy accessible for travelers and dropoff families/friends.
Brussels airport just finished a HUGE taxfree shoppingmall. They better build more full-on security before entering the building. With the events today, this is the logical next step.
