Missing a major gap up and chasing is certainly a strategy. It happens to inexperienced traders every day!
Knowing what you own in the first place is vital. Knowing that there are manipulative factors such as bloggers that like to write false and misleading statements about a company is also unfortunately out there as well.
At the end of the day, it goes back to simply knowing where you're putting your money.
