The article you purport to be a "scam" was written by Maxwell Murphy who is a columnist for the Dow Jones Newswire. He has written several columns on GTE since January and has had several interviews with GTE's management. I seriously doubt that he would risk his reputation and open himself up to libel lawsuits by making something of this nature up.
If one would compare his veracity against your ceaseless, conspiracy-laced, prozac-primed, pump-posts that clutter up the Yahoo, Raging Bull, and I-Hub boards -- Murphy would easily win a credibility contest.
