Weapons and ammo are finite commodities. I wouldn't feel warm and fuzzy trading away something that could come back to haunt me.
I thought the same thing concerning woman as a commodity. Maybe that happens in other groups which would be a form of slavery if the woman isn't a willing participant. Of course the guy in charge of Hilltop seems like he was thinking along those line and may have been on the receiving end of those trades in the past.
