Don't tell that to anyone that followed the New York Mets in 1986.

That team was the eitome of "arrogance".

The team and the fans (far worse) being arrogant are two different things in my opinion. Whether the fans were arrogant, back then/or the team, or both. I really wouldn't know, because in my opinion the only way to judge is to actually live through the season and get a feel. As I was not a sports fan at the age of 6, and since I just turned 6 in late 1986. Just all my opinion.
