Actually, bots are most of the volume in most stocks. Unfortunately, I don't understand their strategy or I'd probably be more profitable.
I was playing with the Google earnings last night. I figured it'd tank right after the close so I shorted 100 shares. Bold move... I could have been wrecked... I got a partial fill for about +$375 then the report dropped. I couldn't catch the wave. It rocketed up to $845 after the ER dropped. I tried to get an average up at $839 but missed it. Finally grabbed one at $818.
My remaining 18 shares that didn't get covered had me down way over $1000 at one point.
Managed to get about $675 on the trade.
If I'd been quicker I could have covered and caught the upswing.
Maybe I should be less daring next time and stick to the direction of the reaction...
