If Apple tries to tighten the price screw even more from there (1000$ for a phone, are you nuts?), I see lots of people switching camps or at least delay their update.

I have been holding off buying a laptop for a while trying to decide whether to
get an older biz system with Win7, a new system with Win10, or a Macbook.

While Apple is treating its Mac users much better than MS is dealing with its
Windows base right now I fear that an Apple under pressure to keep earnings
strong a year down the road might go full Oracle on Mac users (yet again).

100% agree! Simple but true. I think this whole car project is going to be a big flop. That's just not Apple (and the car business is low margin anyway).

The car business is not low margin.
I live near Munich(Germany).
Some friends are working at BMW and some friends are working at Audi.
And the car business (done right) is not low margin.
But Tesla is a joke.
Elon Musks statement about the "Summon-Feature" is a joke.

http://www.theverge.com/2016/1/10/10746020/elon-musk-tesla-autonomous-driving-predictions-summon

You have to make step A before you can make step B.
And Elon Musk want step B in two years, but step A isn't finished. It is not even close.
They can drive on highways now.

And because we are on an Intel-forum:
For self-driving cars you need !!A LOT OF!! calculation power.
Perhaps even the biggest Core i7 is not strong enough.
If you watch the video in this theverge article even easy streets are to complicated for the tesla model s.

I know a PhD who was working on image recognition for cars.
He is working now at Audi.
He had always the strongest CPUs at his desk.

I know that the german car makers are working on better algorithms.
Mercedes has already the Mercedes S-Class with autonomous driving features but only on highways the car knows.
(The highway has to be in the navigation system and the gps-position has to work properly)

We are on a very early stage. And the google self-driving car is a joke.
It is to slow it would block fluid traffic and this is a nogo.
Google said that the self-driving car has not initiated a single accident.
But they stopped more then once just out of curiosity and a car behind him has crashed into the self driving car.
So this is a nogo for german traffic.
German traffic is fast and rule compliant.
You have to calculate the things in real-time, the faster the traffic flows the more calculation power you need.
If you drive a car in Bangkok or Shenzhen this is an adventure(this is not solvable for self-driving cars).
