I would have to look up the rules on his filing requirements, I can't remember from the Series 65 test. My workplace just has to report in the same quarter. If his requirement is to report that quickly they will have a plan worked out prior to the first sale, like buying some puts that are out of the money, sell shares to get the puts in the money, exercise some puts to offset more long positions, etc.
