When you short shares it shows as a sell in red. When you cover your short it shows as a buy.

level 2 time and sales has no way of indicating a short sell. It tells time, volume and shows buy/sell/???? based on the transaction pattern. It shows the transaction, but not the delivery of the shares.

I own shares of Apple. They are held in certificate form, in my name by my broker. If I sold them, they would take 1-3 days to be cleared and delivered. Does that make them short?

Many sites show short numbers. They are published 2 a month.
