If I recall correctly, in the SHM video, Bob Jones talks about the carbon composite components failing some stress tests because of problems with their manufacturing. Sanswire had built a new oven for $800 (he said that a commericial one would have cost $200,000) or so to bake the parts themselves so they wouldn't necessarily have to reorder.

The problem with the solar cells was on the coating put on top of the cells. Apparently there were pits in the coating put on by the manufacturer which concentrated sun light and may have caused a fire. Sanswire is putting a new coating on it.
