Trimming the Fat Out for the Merger or a Normal fluctuation in work force over their 45 year history..??!! or both..??!!

Not uncommon for a company to right size the workforce before a merger. Better for current management to do it than new.

I don't see the layoff's as anything negative but positive. It may have been done after the audit and something that the hedge fund required for funding purposes. Many other reasons possibly but any merger would have a scale down.
