Don't fool yourself. Dell sells millions of people computers that don't know a CPU from a potato chip. If Dell buys from AMD, AMD sells way more chips. If the faster and better chip always won, then Intel would have sold a lot fewer P4's over the years. Face it, the industry has moved on.
