#32568 RE: denmo83 #32565

So is your printer working after the Setup/install?

That link you gave was pretty old - I think MS fixed most of those issues allowing for a true plug-and-play set up for most printers...
But with that said -
I remember having to spend quite a bit of time to finally get my HP USB printer to work...had to install it several times, rebooting in between.
It would stop working after a day or so for some unknown reason while another HP printer on my home network would work fine...

I think what finally worked for me was to uninstall the printer and delete all the HP folders that were loaded when I used the HP printer install disc.
Actually I re-named the ones I thought were related to the install disc...
I put an X in front of the original folder name in case they were for something else and needed to go back to the original name...

Then used Add a Device - not Add a printer
(from the Start menu, click Devices and Printers)
It had me search brands and models but did not list my exact model...so I selected
a model listed that was closest to it...been working fine ever since.

If it is listed on the Devises and Printers page, right click it and make it your default printer...
Also check to see what's printing and make sure the Use Off-line is not checked.

sidedraft's answer about which USB port you use is correct as far as I can tell...I can use any
one of 6 that are on my machine, USB 2.0, USB 3.0 or I can plug into a 1-to-5 USB splitter with out probems.
I don't remember ever getting a pop-up asking which port to assign to the printer...
