Comb, the pdf sais that they want to base the Red Storm on the commodity parts. So most likely the part you described IBM will make or is making as a widely available, used in many supercomputers from 16 to 10,000 processors.
I think the basic design is 96 Opterons in the rack. It fits very well and this is a basic building block of Red Storm. They will have 108 of those. So, we should see dozens and dozens of small 96-Opteron supercomputers all around the world. It will be pretty cheap and the fastest thing you can get out of one rack.
