~ RGBP = Christine Ichim, PhD
Director of Molecular Therapeutics

Dr. Christine Ichim serves as Director of Molecular Therapeutics at Regen BioPharma, heading the DifferonC, Cancer Stem Cell, and Telomerase modulation programs. Dr. Ichim discovered the essential role of NR2F6 in maintaining cancer pathogenesis and that suppressing this therapeutic target results in cancer cells turning to normal cells. Dr. Ichim has authored 7 peer reviewed publications, made more than 21 presentations at international symposiums, and is inventor / co-inventor of 6 patent applications.

Dr. Christine Ichim completed a Masters of Science in the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto with Dr. Norman Iscove, a pioneer in the stem cell field. In his lab she studied the cancer stem cell and identified genes that controlled the ability of leukemia cells to divide without exhaustion.

Dr. Ichim continued to decipher the genes that controlled the ability of cancer stem cells to divide indefinitely during her PhD in the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto in the laboratory of Dr. Richard Wells, Co-director of the Myelodysplastic Syndromes Program, at Sunnybrook Health Science Center, a University of Toronto affiliated hospital. In his lab she established the function of the novel oncogene NR2F6.

She then completed post-doctoral training in the laboratory of Jan Karlseder at the Salk Institute for Biological Sciences where she continued to research the ability of cells to divide without exhaustion from the vantage point of telomere biology and genomic organization. This work was funded by Canadian Institutes of Health Research as a result of Dr. Ichim being awarded the Prize of Excellence in Research on Aging!! ;-)
