A manager, for the most part, is as good as his players--ask Joe Torre, who would have gone down in history as pitiful had he not got the Yankee job at the right time...

Maddon left Tampa at the right time and landed in a pond full of very good young players---similar to Tampa with his great young pitching staffs...

I like Madddon--and his restaurant :-)--and he is good with players and in the clubhouse/dugout---but ya gots to have the horses to win the race..
