The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation sues Petrobras (NYSE:PBR) and its auditor, claiming the Brazil corruption scandal has caused the charitable organization to lose tens of millions of dollars.
The foundation joins a long list of plaintiffs seeking to recoup money from the company, which has maintained that it was a victim of a years-long bid-rigging and bribery ring, but the Gates lawsuit alleges that corruption at the company was so widespread as to be “institutional” and that the wrongdoing was “willfully ignored” by its auditor.
