I remember a few potential trades earlier this year in which the other teams wanted Lester and another top pitching prospect. Darn good thing Boston is holding onto their top players, Lester has some awesome stuff.
Look at which players the Red Sox have signed for the next couple of years. These guys contracts end at the end of this year: Foulke and 7.5MM will be gone as well Wells 4MM+, Timlin 3.5MM and Seanez 2MM. There's $17 million to be invested elsewhere next year in addition to the team getting younger and potentially better!
You can't mortgage the future for the now as so many teams get into the habit of doing.
