there's a lot of good that can come from having so-called advanced information about someone (i.e. seeing peoplemarks and ignores)... it can help you cut through the crap and get to the heart of things without having to discover for yourself what others have already determined. a great example of this is the national sex offender data base. everybody wants to know where these people are living.

but there's a flip side to having others make up your mind for you. sex offenders aside <g>, there are times when valid information can be exchanged, or worthwhile ideas and thoughts can be communicated between two posters that may not have had the occasion to post back and forth had the advanced information doctrine been in place.

the idea of displaying peoplemarks and ignores, while entertaining to contemplate, also concerns me as a vehicle of groupthink. some might argue that it is the rough equivalent of a brand on the forehead.....
