think about the fact that we're dealing with societal changing technology. The government is on board with this tech

The government knew about this technology over a decade ago. I would think that over the last decade they have been following the progress at little ole LWLG (fka Psi-tech, Third Order Nanotechnologies). The potential for societal change and that of US national security was just too important to ignore. Just look who is at the helm of LWLG.
