The CNBC special at 7 pm last night said the sell off was related to large sales out of mutual funds that piled by scared retail after 2:30 pm.

Fortunately I had executed my pre-noon transfer of 40% of my retirement (which was all out in May) back into some index funds (SPY, EFA and mid/small caps) and got to purchase all of those cheap shares at the close! :-)
