#7951 RE: kpf #7949

kpf, thanks & some clarification -

My speculations are about the dual DDR A64 on the roadmap for 2004 (not the one for September). My mistake for saying 'second memory controller', but the requirement for the number of pins is the same - it depends on the DIMM modules only: 240 x 2 = 480 pins for dual DDR-II, meaning 240 more than the first A64.

The question was whether a dual DDR A64 would be possible on Socket 754, or would it require Socket 940? From my calculations, Socket 754 has to have enough pins for supporting dual DDR, unless the extra pins were intended for two more HT channels (103 x 2 = 206 pins).

My calculation was based on working backwards from the 940 socket and showing that either 2 HTs or 1 extra DDR bank brought the required total to less than 754.

Since all the evidence points to a dual DDR A64 and because Socket 754 has enough pins for dual DDR, I conclude that dual DDR A64 will be a Socket 754 product.
