New York Yankees place Dustin Ackley on 15-day disabled list with lumbar strain
RHP Caleb Cotham recalled from Triple-A to replace Ackley on roster
The New York Yankees have placed infielder/outfielder Dustin Ackley on the 15-day disabled list with a right lumbar strain and recalled RHP Caleb Cotham from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The moves were announced in a team release sent Tuesday afternoon, prior to the team's series opener against the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.
Ackley, who was acquired from Seattle on July 30 for outfielder Ramon Flores and RHP Jose Ramirez, has appeared in two games in pinstripes, going 0-for-3. He is hitting .212 overall this season, with six homers and 19 RBI, in 87 total games with the Yankees and Mariners.
Cotham, 27, is now in his second stint with the Yankees. He had been called up on July 29 and made his major-league debut that night, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings in the team's loss to the Rangers, but was sent back to Triple-A the next day.
The former fifth-round pick has pitched at both Double-A and Triple-A this season, going 5-2 with a 2.11 ERA and two saves in 28 outings. He has struck out 54 against just 10 walks in 47 total innings.
