Susie: The point is that this will set a precedent, especially if the players' union doesn't fight it. I believe this is the first player to be suspended under the drug policy without testing positive. If this one is allowed to stand without a fight, MLB will be able to suspend anybody else that is "proven" to have taken steroids or HGH by means other than a positive test. For that reason, I believe the Union will fight this.
Commissioner works for the owners. The D-Backs owner is looking for some help in refusing to pay Grimsley. Because that 50 game suspension is "without pay", in the wrangling over money, Grimsley's bargaining position just vaporized by 50 games. :-)
