Thank you for the additional detail. I contacted Options Express (owned by Charles Schwab) the rep I spoke clearly did not know what he was talking about. He did not understand the difference between margin interest and the interest charge associated with a short position. Unfortunately no help there. The interest is also a floating target, I just find it to be a useful piece of data that is not readily available on various financial websites. I was also thinking about the requirements placed on shareholders when the own more than 5% of the stock of a publicly traded company, and was confounded by the fact that the same requirement does not apply to short positions. That is legislation that I would like to see, as it would provide more transparency, which is exactly what short interests do not want, generally speaking.
