#4063 RE: Gold Seeker #4061

What you are not addressing is the detection of early cancers. Since the level of RECAF varies, the threshold for determining cancer has to be high enough to trigger a positive for those persons with a normal high level. Otherwise, you have a rather high false positive rate. When the threshold is set to prevent false positives, it will fail to detect early stage cancers for persons with a normal low level of RECAF.

YOU ARE ASSUMING THAT RECAF IS NOT DETECTING EARLY CANCERS WITH ITS GENERAL TEST. MORO ISN'T SURE WHETHER THE AMOUNT OF AFP VARIES IN INDIVIDUALS. IT'S A SUPPOSITION THAT HE POSTULATED BUT DOESN'T SAY HE'S PERSUING IT, AS I RECALL. YOUR LAST SENTENCE IS CORRECT IF AND ONLY IF THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO HAVE A LOW LEVEL OF AFP CONSISTENT IN THEIR BODY. AND THAT IS AN ASSUMPTION THAT HAS NOT BEEN INVESTIGATED. IN OTHER WORDS, THERE IS NO PROOF THAT THE LEVELS OF AFP VARY IN INDIVIDUALS AT THIS TIME.
