They decided to make the first demo scooter a 100% fuel cell powered rig so that there would be not doubt it was running off on nothing but the MVTG fuel cell.
I believe a "combo battery-fuel cell-on board fuel cell charger" rig for the battery, and hybrid regenerative breaking system with power management controls will soon become the state of the art for these and full sized motorcycles. The high peak output batteries will give them higher peak power, while the fuel cells will add range between stops to refuel/charge. This will take advantage of the best of both technologies!!!
