I agree with everything you just said except for the time line. 5 years from now Sphere 3D will be a distant, but happy memory, for most of us here. Microsoft can't afford for this gem to stay independent for that long. By the end of this year we're all laughing on our way to the bank, IMO.

And I just read in another article that most of the times acquisitions happen behind doors and no one knows(besides insiders) for sure what is happening. I think a close relationship with Microsoft would make Sphere3D known by many also creates revenue($$ from deals + free advertisement). Then the process of Microsoft considering what to do with Sphere3D would begin.
