I don't really care if NASA has or doesn't have the tech to help Nissan. My question is if GOSY has the tech for Nissan, then why, after 4 months, haven't we heard anything more than law suit threats because Nissan didn't sign the NDA? And GOSY's PPS remains under a half penny with very little interest.
That's a very bold assumption you made there. NASA has no obligation to publicly disclose any of their tech to anyone. What makes you think NASA has no nav. tech that is suitable for automobile?
A quick glance at wiki for Curiosity Rover resulted this:
1) On mobility systems [Based on variables including power levels, terrain difficulty, slippage and visibility, the maximum terrain-traverse speed is estimated to be 200 m (660 ft) per day by automatic navigation.]
To me, this clearly explains (terrain difficulty) the need for slow creep/look approach. Also make sense since Curiosity is to explore Mars bit by bit. If it has tech like automobile, then it would be running around like a mad bull w/o achieving any goals. What's the point of that? Curiosity is supposed to cover 19km (only!) during its 2yrs (!) of exploration.
2) On hazard avoidance [The cameras use visible light to capture stereoscopic three-dimensional (3-D) imagery. The cameras have a 120° field of view and map the terrain at up to 3 m (9.8 ft) in front of the rover. This imagery safeguards against the rover crashing into unexpected obstacles, and works in tandem with software that allows the rover to make its own safety choices.]
This does show NASA had the capabilities GOSY has. How different are they? I don't know frankly. Like I said, Nissan could be looking for something that suits their eco-sys better than NASA, but I haven't a doubt NASA already has the tech, & Nissan has publicly announced their continual partnership with NASA.
