billings and cash/money in the door are different numbers. you don't want to confuse people here by mixing together these different figures.

there's usually a lag of up to 60 days between the billing date and the date the cash is received on an invoice. each invoice and payment may be different, although most companies have a consistent due date for payment.
where billings and revenue are similar, either the business is steady (not good in Wave's case), or it's a coincidence.
this is the general point. this particular contract may have been paid upfront, but that isn't the general rule for billings.
