But I have to say, the coldest I as a person have ever been was in Chicago... 1 block off the lake, very late at night, just got off the train from the airport and waiting for a cab. Wind off the lake was carrying microscopic icicles... the coldest I have ever been.... and I grew up in the Colorado Rockies... so I was no pussy.

the only times i can remember/feel walking backwards for sorta similar reasons were in blizzards on Grouse or Seymour Mts, skiing
spots in the Vancouver area .. no way it would have been anywhere as as cold as places you have lived .. my -70 was wind chill,
of course, maybe it was only -40 even .. lol .. if you were off to work it could have taken you some 3 hours or more, eh .. grin ..

yeah, i can still feel the abrasive 'hurt' of cold wind on the face
