Thanks fuagf, At a certain temp... not sure exactly what it is, but somewhere colder than 30-40 below F depending on the humidity and wind... the human body and the lungs just don't allow that cold air inside... they shut down and say f...off. Frostbite in the lungs almost always leads to death, and the brain and lungs seem to know this. God gave us two hands... we can cup them over our face to warm the air coming in, or we walk backwards.

One must walk backwards into this cold wind and wrap a scarf or something around the mouth and nose to breath. Like I say, the brain will not allow frostbite to the lungs.
