Can I take a stab at that ? In negotiations, VRNG may have brought a United States action into the conversation. It upset ZTE enough to go out and take preemptive action . The Delaware action was an attempt to get around the Romanian problem. The USPTO action was a shot across the bow of VRNG .
ZTE is telling VRNG that any United States action will be a costly fight . VRNG is telling ZTE if you don't want a global license now, we will go after you in the United States next . I am thinking those Friday negotiations were not pleasant on either side. ZTE has every right to dig in, but it will cost them one way or another.
Personally, I wish VRNG would settle for less than they desire. I am not saying take a low ball offer. But the ZTE money puts VRNG on firm financial footing, and would stabilize the share price. Then they would have plenty of money to finish off Google, and go on to the next wave of licenses.
It would eliminate any question of dilution, or bankruptcy. Sometimes you sacrifice some money up front, to get paid later in other actions. No company will settle if they believe they can bleed a company dry. Stable finances prevents any company from using such a strategy .
