Look at the Supreme Court recent ruling on these class action lawsuits in the post linked below. They have a very difficult time getting class action status and usually end up with less than 50 plaintiffs now. These are scare tactics only. Companies also typically have insurnace coverage for these situations. GTE should only be responsible up to their deductable even if these would result in settlements. These lawsuits really are a non-issue long term but are great short term manipulators of investor sentiment.
