Yes , inflammation is one risk factor ...but so is having a low HDL /high TG ratio ...well documented in the sub group analysis in JELIS .
The higher the TG level in relation to the lower HDL level ...the higher risk of CV events especially among diabetics ...its well documented , sorry I don't have time to fins a link ...so you want TG levels over 200 to pick up this group

R-IT approval - if any - will be for TG 150+. They increased the min TG to see MORE event. Ergo, lower TG = less event, = TG is important.
