Re: Gilead Invincibility Block

Your post is an illustration of the double standard in perception on matters pertaining to GILD—a phenomenon I’ve called Gilead Invincibility Block.

If GILD had been the one who negotiated an exclusive deal with ESRX, locking out ABBV in return for an undisclosed discount, investors would have hailed it as a brilliant tactical stroke. However, when ABBV does the same thing, some investors say they shot themselves in the foot.

Nothing could be further from the truth, of course. Such talk is mostly sour grapes by people who lost money betting on GILD’s invincibility.

That perception is as false as the previous perception that ABBV wouldn't discount at least close to Harvoni 8-week regimen price - they have no choice with existence of Harvoni 8-week and 12-week regimens if they act in their own best interest. I don't understand why people didn't/don't see that clearly to be honest. The only thing I can think of is group thinking on GILD as DD termed GILD invincibility block. I read analysts' reports the past two days, they typically contradicted themselves, on one hand they stated they were not surprised by ABBV's discount deal with ESRX, on the other hand their whole reports were based on their own surprises thus GILD price target cut. The herd mentality of ABBV needs to fall in line with GILD's sky high price is as ridiculous as it sounds!
