First off Walmart has never been in bankruptcy, it was K-Mart, which is a totally different entity. Secondly, yes the management of K-MART changed when a HEDGE FUND named ESL Investments, managed by Edward Lampert, which specializes in buying distressed organizations gained control of the company upon emergence from bankruptcy

Mr. Lampert with his extensive business acumen realized early on in the K-MART bankruptcy that the real estate owned was not being properly valued according to present day values. It was in fact being way undervalued because of the "LEGAL" but outdated accounting method being used by the court.

If this fact was shared by Mr. Lampert with the equity committee, today the original shareholders of K-MART would still be part owners of that company. Mr. Lampert kept this vital, case changing information to himself and the rest is history.
