Anyone suggesting shareholders might be able to benefit from the bankruptcy process is most likely doing a disservice to them.

LOL, Do you not understand chapter 7 bankruptcy? The purpose of filing the CH7 is: get rid of all the debts and liabilities while liquidating all the nonexempt assets in order to re-start the company from a fresh point! How could the CH7 "disservice" the shareholders? Do the shareholders enjoy or be beneficial from the pile of debts and liabilities while the company does not have the capability to pay them off?
