and also, lest we forget, if safend is profitable, it may well have a separable value in spite of the fact that wave wrote the business off.

in which case you might net off safend's purchase price against this separable value. otherwise the purchase side is unfairly burdened.

and then you might compare historic safend operating losses against current safend operating profits to get a clean cumulative operating profit/loss number.

in my view, with capital and income separated, you get a slightly clearer idea of safend's net contribution.

to figure a separable value you probably want to discount a cash flow forecast.
