The whole notion behind medicine is practicing the art of healing! All good doctors should have an opened mind and try different things to heal their patients! Sometimes this requires going beyond what they teach you in medical school. A good doctor needs to think for himself and use the medicines available in order to practice medicine. A bad doctor is one who throws up a wall and does not listen to his patients or new science.
Agree the education of these doctors is a very tough road indeed..One thing that might help however is to get some of the scientific information out in the open.
