Doc Detroit - flip it around and ask, in hosting this press event, what was their goal? I'm still not sure what the takeaway is, except maybe "we are a technology company that detects explosives." I dont think that was what they wanted to convey. And if it was they shouldn't have done anything at all.
The event should have been all about the new QS-B220 and airport security around the world. Behind them should have been a big banner with the company name on it. No poster presentations on easels - this was not an investor conference. They should have brought two B220's and left the H150 in Wilmington. I love buzz's idea of putting some explosive material on reporters and then scanning them for explosives. Even more of a stunt would have been to secretly rub some testing material on several of the participants, then line everyone up for screening and find the explosive materials. Imagine how the reporters would have felt when the alarm goes off on them. All someone would have to do is shake their hand in advance, or pat them on the shoulder. It would have been most effective.
Hell, they could have gotten an off-duty TSA screener to perform an official pat-down! maybe thats too much, but you get the idea.
And they should have been prepared for the question on how this new tech will affect the NYC traveling public. The info needs to be relevant and timely or it is not news, and hence no reporting on it today.
They do not know what they are doing with regard to marketing, plain and simple.
I don't think he sees them as partners per se but there are certain things that he can say or can't say in those situations. At the end of the day 162mn IDIQS, 40-50mn initial order and most of their options are still not even in the money. They should not be happy if you ask me. DMRJ should be proud though with the current picture.
