I 2nd all this and agree- great posts. I didn't get a chance to read all 500 today- but skimmed a few and caught the tail end here. Great to see the mods discussing, as well as agreeing on all this.

We're all headed someplace great!! Good times!!

Ha Ha - we get more than enough sun down under - plenty for when SLTD gets here !

still, for strategic reasons complete future reliance on solar as the main renewable source is possibly not wise.

Why ?
- what if a volcano blows up and a dust cloud is over your solar panels for months?
- What if an enemy makes a bomb that zaps your solar panels?
- What if your country doesn't make panels and you must rely on imports?

There is of course wind - but that's not fully reliable either. A suitable long term energy storage is not yet available - but may come. Clean coal or gas might be an option - but seemingly a long way from economic feasibility.

So we come to ocean wave energy - this is way more predictable & reliable. There are maps of suitable places to harvest ocean energy. There are still problems of cost competitiveness and engineering challenges - but to me this seems to closest answer for now.
