In 2014 there has been a lot of activity in the IP arena across the many IP offices across the board. Even though Apple does not provide any direct revenue, their IP support (includes footing the bill) to me is extremely important. I like to keep tabs in this area, and within the past 60 days a lot of the filings related to current Engel machine have started to be published as they move through the patent issuance process. A lot of those filings were initially filed only through WIPO, but are now starting to show up in offices like the USPTO & KIPO. IP protection is important and for things that a are assigned to CIP it's good to have Apple's IP attorneys there.
