High frequency trading machines are algorithmically programmed to buy or sell on quarterly profits or losses for most companies regardless of the long term fundamentals for the company. While it is true that the hedge finds that trade AMRN may use not high frequency trading machines, they pretty much abide by the same rules. Being a tiny biotech, AMRN can also be influenced by sudden momentous positive or negative outcomes of catalytic events. It's not a stock for the proverbial widows and orphans segment of the investing public.
