Another thing you can do is catch a wild feral cat and lock it in the car, they are usually half starved and will go on a mission to get that mouse.... may not be great on the upholstery and they do stink a bit. Make sure you stand well back when you open the door, they have a short temper. You may want to ask your mother in law to get something out of the glove box for you just to keep you safe.
