Shares moved from margin a/c

I remember years ago it was suggested that we should request our brokers to move shares from margin a/c to cash account so they would not be available for shorts. Does/is this still true or does it not make a difference?

FlyFisher - Aha! That explains why the "R-Restricted" legend suddenly started appearing next to the WAVX quote on Fidelity.com. Thanks for the info.
