#30430 RE: jmspaesq #30429

Joel,

Thanks for including me on the invitation list. {g}

As for the comments by Rox, I know exactly what he is saying. Clearly IDCC does not "own" 100% of the air interface for 3G.

I don't think infinite_q, BSW, or the poster formerly known as corpgold would ever suggest such a thing. But my point is that there is a line of thinking that exists in which Interdigital is the legacy thinking behind WCDMA. It goes back to their B-CDMA days and their involvement with the U.S. led proposal for the wideband CDMA component of IMT-2000.

From this point of view, IDCC is more than a just a fringe contributor to 3G. They are a significant IPR holder, and I might add one who has not sold off their ability to collect on their technology because of past negotiations. Including the famous one in 1995.

Cheers!

OT: Joel - I didn't realize that I lit a firestorm yesterday afternoon....too funny that both BSW and iq jumped in on me but couldn't back up the "essential" nature of that patent to any of the standards.....sigh.

re: maybe wrong or maybe right.....what are the parameters for identifying who is right? If I'm wrong I have to buy? What kinda deal is dat? R^)

Some here think that "1000" contributions to the standards is a lot...as Corp finally recognised after we debated this, a contribution does not equal a patent, and it certainly doesn't equal an "essential" patent. BTW - a vast majority of those contributions have been to the TDD side of things. Does anybody realize that the number of "contributions" to 3GPP is in the HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS?

And yes....I'm here to make money (and to try to keep expectations in line with reality)....been pretty much on the mark so far including the Ericsson settlement.

re: Hooters....I might consider it for evening entertainment after putting down a couple of beefs B^)

Have a great day - hope you can make it to the ASM.
