I got to see up close and personal how ineffectual and useless the United Nations is. I won't go into the details of what the meeting was about, but suffice to say that the WHO/UN attendees clearly had no realistic agenda to accomplish any goal other than to say that they held a conference with the industry and to say that the UN/WHO position - that everything should be given free to all countries except for the evil North America, Europe, and Japan - was stated and defended by them during the conference.
It was clearly all for show, so the WHO/UN bureaucrats could say they had a conference.
They had no - and I mean zero - intent to actually accomplish anything that would benefit the people who they professed to be so concerned about.
The UN is simply a permaclub of bureaucrats who apparently transfer from one department to another and exist solely to talk, issue position papers that are pure nonsense, and hold conferences to make it look like they are doing something. When you spend a week with people - taking all three meals with them, living with them, talking with them all day long, you get a good measure of them.
I am of the firm conviction that the UN exists only as a social club for professionally ineffectual bureaucrats. It was even worse that I had expected, and I never expected much of the UN, although I had higher expectations of the WHO.
